Southlake was an agricultural community consisting mainly of cattle and horse ranches. However, in the past 30 years the Southlake community has emerged into one of the most desirable and sought-after, upscale, elite bedroom communities in all of North Texas.
It is no surprise executives and their families want to make Southlake their home. After all, Southlake schools have been notorious for excellence as far back as I can remember, which is the 70´s.
In my opinion, it was the lure of the quality public school system that originally attracted executive home buyers to the Southlake Texas. That which in turn, got the attention of local luxury home builders.
By the way, the outstanding schools continue to bring executive home buyers into Southlake TX everyday.
The other huge draw to Southlake Texas is the convenient location. The city of Southlake is truly centrally located in relation to Dallas, Las Colinas and Fort Worth as well as neighboring with other desirable cities and/or school districts such as Grapevine Texas, Colleyville Texas, Keller Texas, Trophy Club Texas and the impressive city of Westlake Texas.
Southlake Texas is made up of a scenic blend of spectacular luxury estate homes on acreage and massive executive homes tucked away within the decorative gates of exclusive neighborhoods.
The community is comprised primarily of well thought-out, prestigious neighborhoods. Many of which are gated communities with greenbelts, lakes, fountains, parks and walking trails.
Southlake Texas offers a family lifestyle in a comfortable country setting with convenient access to major areas of interest such as, Dallas, Las Colinas, Fort Worth, Denton, Grapevine, The DWF International Airport and more.
As a child, I grew up and went to school in Grapevine. As a young adult, I married and moved to Southlake. This all occurred long before there were any exclusive subdivisions.
Our home was the ranch that previously occupied the land where the historically styled Southlake Town Square proudly stands today.
My former husband, I and our children lived on the almost 100 acre ranch that had once belonged to his grandfather. We lived there from 1977 through 1981.
Today the ranch house, barns, corrals, swimming pool, guesthouse and clubhouse have been replace by the beautiful Southlake Town Square, but the pond and the mature trees along the south side of the property are original.

As of the 2002 census, the reported population was 21,519. I estimate the current population to be closer to 35,000, and the city is growing every day.

Southlake is primarily a residential community. It was not until the late 80's and early 90´s that a few of the major corporations considered making Southlake and the surrounding areas home to they're polished corporate campuses. It was not until the late 1990's, the retail shops and restaurants bloomed.
Southlake Texas, has a thriving local economy, while at the same time serving as a gateway to major corporate executive employment opportunities in the near by cities of Dallas, Las Colinas, Fort Worth, and the Alliance Corridor.
The City of Southlake is home to national corporate citizens, including Verizon Wireless and Saber with many other major corporations like Fidelity, Motorola and Nokia facilities just minutes away.

The Southlake city planners are true visionaries with a zeal for beautification, and it shows in every phase of the development of this special city.
The city of Southlake mostly resides within the boundaries of north east Tarrant County. There is a small area of north Southlake, mostly north of Highway 114 and along the south shore of the Grapevine Lake, which is in Southern Denton County.
You also need to know that most of the city of Southlake is within the Carroll school district, but some areas of the cities boundary lines and the school district's lines do not follow one another. Therefore, if you are buying a home in the area and the school district is a factor in your home buying decision, then you need to call the school district to verify the school district information.
Otherwise you might think your purchasing a home in the Carroll ISD, and you may be purchasing in the town of Southlake, while the school district could be any of the following: Northwest ISD, Keller ISD, or the Grapevine/Colleyville ISD. Which also are desirable school districts.
The community boasts a golfer's paradise with countless golfing opportunities only minutes away. Including the Timarron Country Club in Southlake and the near by Trophy Club Country Club, the awesome Grapevine Municipal course, the golf course at Hidden Lakes and the private course at Vaquero just to name a few.
The City of Southlake has eleven public parks, three miles of walking trails, a community center, a tennis center, twenty-five miles of shoreline horse trails, numerous ball fields and a public library.

Southlake's Carroll Independent School District epitomizes academic excellence. The Texas Education Agency recently awarded the district its seventh consecutive exemplary rating.
Southlake is centrally located near the northeast campus of the Tarrant County Community College (TCCC), the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), the University of North Texas-Denton (UNT), the Texas Women University-Denton (TWU) and many other institutions of higher learning.

What about football - Southlake is home to the Carroll Dragons. Belonging to the Carroll Independent School District, the Carroll Dragons high school football team has ranked number one in the country for the years of '04 and '05 and has lived up to its title by winning the division 5-A state championship in '02, '04, and '05 while being the runner-up in '03. In addition to Carroll's three, 5-A titles, Carroll achieved state championship titles in '88, '92, and '93 as a classification 3-A school. Carroll posted a sixteen to zero record all six championship years.

Southlake is renowned for the Southlake Town Square, one of the most popular shopping centers in Tarrant County. Southlake Town Square is located on State Highway 114.
You will entrances for the Town Square on;
• The east bound service road of HWY-114
• Carroll Boulevard (south of 114)
• Southlake Boulevard, also known as FM 1709.
The Southlake Town Square recently expanded to include some residential housing and a resort hotel. There is a huge demand for the Brownstone town-homes. With stout rates starting from $300.00 per square foot, and a massive waiting list, it is easy to recognize how great the demand is for the posh town-homes.
There are no finer shopping and entertainment opportunities than those found in Southlake. National, regional and local retailers provide an exciting shopping experience while fine and casual dining venues offer a variety of tastes for the discerning palate.
I have personally tried them all, well almost all. My favorites are the refreshing Blue-Wedge Salad served at The Southlake Tavern, located on Southlake Boulevard and the heart warming Jalapeno Soup available daily at the Fish City Grill, also located on Southlake Boulevard.
